FAQ

  • What makes Tasty Little Leaves different from other farms or producers of leafy greens?
Tasty Little Leaves is unique in the way we grow our products. All of our microgreens are grown hydroponically, which means they are grown in a nutrient-rich water solution rather than soil. This method allows us to carefully control the environment in which our plants grow, resulting in consistently high-quality and delicious greens. Additionally, at Tasty Little Leaves, we offer a diverse range of products for our customers to discover. From classic favorites like broccoli to more unique options such Spicy Greens Mix, we have something for everyone. We believe in the power of choice and aim to provide a variety of options for our customers. Lastly, our products are sold by the ounce, allowing our customers to choose the exact quantity they need without any waste. This not only saves money but also reduces food waste, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.
  • How do I store my microgreens?
You will want to store your microgreens in the refrigerator. They will come with a paper towel on the bottom to collect condensation. Do not wash the greens until you are ready to use them, and then only the portion you intend to use.
  • Do you use any chemicals or pesticides when growing them?
No. Our microgreens are grown hydroponically. That means they are grown only with water, no soil. We add a mineral based nutrient solution.
  • I am new to eating microgreens. What should I try first?
We recommend starting with the mild flavored crops like broccoli, sunflower, and pea shoots.
  • What are the best ways to add microgreens to my life?
One meal and bite at a time. Add them to any of the 5 "S" groups. Salads, Sandwiches, Sautés, Smoothies, and Soups.
  • What is the difference between microgreens and sprouts? Aren't they the same thing?
They are two different stages of the grow cycle of a plant. The seed germinates by sprouting, then creates the cotyledon leaves, then the true leaves that continue to develop the fully grown plant. Sprouts are the 1st stage and they must be rinsed several times daily to keep pathogens from developing. The microgreen is harvested just after the cotyledon leaves develop. Studies have show the cotyledon is a plant's most nutritious stage of development.
  • Do you use Non-GMO seeds?
Yes, we seek out non-GMO organic seeds to grow our crops.
  • How long will it take to receive my microgreens?
Our crops are grown to fulfill your order. Depending on the crop selected they can take from 10 to 25 days grow. See time grow indicated on the crop selected. We will deliver them with in 72 hours after harvest. The harvest date indicated on the package label. Once you place your order, it will be added into the next grow cycle. Depending on when in the rotation you place your order, it could take up to 10 days for it to be added to the next germination.
  • Why eat microgreens instead of the adult vegetable I can get at the store?
Concentrated nutrition and flavor. Have you noticed the flavor of the produce of the store is not as vibrant and tasty as they use to be many years ago? That is because they have been developed for longer shelf life instead of flavor or nutrition. Studies have shown that a serving of microgreens can have up to 40 times the nutrition as a serving of the adult version.
  • Can I buy a tray of uncut microgreens so I can harvest when I want?
Since we grow our crops hydroponically we do not provide microgreens that are still growing in the nutrient solution.
  • Where do you deliver?
We will hand deliver your chilled microgreens to your requested address within the greater Jacksonville area. Delivery charges vary depending on distance. We will not deliver via overnight or carrier services such as UPS, USPS, of FedEx.
  • How long (shelf-life) should they last?
Store unwashed greens in the container you received them in the refrigerator. They should remain fresh for 10 - 14 or more days.
  • What is a serving size of microgreens?
The serving size can vary depending on the variety you are eating. Studies show it is recommended to eat approximately 1.5 - 2 tablespoons per meal and 2 cups for the day to experience noticeable benefits.
  • How much should I buy to last me for a week?
That depends on what your reasons are for eating them and how many people are eating them. They can be added to many dishes like salads, sandwiches, soups, smoothies, or just to jazz up the visual appeal as a garnish. It is recommended to substitute 1 - 2 tablespoons of microgreens for every cup of vegetables you would usually need.
